Frequently Asked Pilates Questions
What is the difference between group
classes and private lessons?
Mat classes are for people who prefer to learn in
a group environment. In a group class, students learn exercises
together and everyone may or may not progress as a group.
While students are assessed individually and while students
do receive some personal attention, the class is for the group
and not the individual. Individuals are often given their
own modifications for specific exercises, but teachers cannot
focus an entire class based on one person and their specific
issues.
Private lessons are for several kinds of people:
- Athletes looking to improve their sport
- People with severe issues who need to have personal
attention
- People who prefer to have personal attention
- People who want to progress quickly
- People who don't like to exercise in a group
- People who have a hard time exercising in a
group
In a private lesson, the student is assessed based on their
own specific physical issues / needs and the entire workout
is designed with these issues in mind. Private lessons are
the classical form of teaching Pilates and this is the route
to take if you are looking to change your body. |
