What is adaptive yoga at Inspiral?
At Inspiral we offer wellness programs that allow everyone to feel their best physically, mentally and spiritually. Through our new adaptive yoga program, you can now do that using traditional and modern yoga! In adaptive classes and private sessions, we will adapt the instruction and practice to each body in a comfortable, safe, 'makes sense' format. Anyone can do this, even those bed ridden or in wheel chairs!
Yoga helps us connect the mind, body, and spirit through the practice of physical postures (asana), partnered with the breath (pranayama), and meditation. Through adaptive yoga, we are able to modify the typical postures to enable yoga to be a practice for everybody.
Despite popular culture, yoga does not have a specific mold or person that it is intended for.
Adaptive yoga is therapeutic movement for each body. Every body has its own special qualities; we are not at all similar! Our teachers make adjustments to movement in order to make poses or exercises more accessible for you!
All yoga should be adaptive to some extent. Adaptive yoga takes traditional (and modern) poses (and movement) and tailors them to YOUR physical body.
At Inspiral, we understand your limits and boundaries and work with props to help you adapt to the poses and movements. Adaptive yoga combined breathing with props such as blankets, poles, chairs, sliders, yoga straps, therabands, bolsters and blocks to meet the unique needs of individuals with different abilities and levels. Poses can be adapted for a chair, a bed, while standing, or on the earth.
